Awards

These awards shall be presented on the name of the MPSOS at the Annual Conference of the MPSOS. All awards shall be given in a rotation of three years in their two separate categories listed here:

[A] Honorary Award

These awards shall be presented to the members of the Society who have at least 20 years of membership for their outstanding ophthalmic service to the community, continued interest in the progress of the society and active scientific interests. He must have attended at least 2 Annual conferences in the last 5 years. The person who has initiated and contributed fully or partly for an award shall not be a nominee for that particular award. All awards shall be given every third year by a fixed rotation. No adjustment shall be made on this provision to accommodate anybody or for any other consideration.

The recipients for the awards shall be selected by the Award Committee directly on the basis of names suggested by the Divisional Societies to the General Secretary [the Convener of the Award Committee]. A Divisional Society may send one name to be considered for the award at least 3 months in advance to the Convener. In addition, the Award Committee may consider names directly also. The committee will also give recommendation for the Lifetime Achievement Award of AIOS on the basis of the applications received by them through the secretary.

Eligibility for the Honorary Awards

  • Only Regular Life Members of M.P.S.O.S and Honorary RLM shall be eligible for the awards.
  • The recipient shall have to be a member of “Good Standing with no Society Dues”.
  • No award shall be given twice to the same person.
  • Any member of the Society who is eligible for the award shall be entitled to be considered for the same. If he/she is a member of any committee discussing the selection of award, he/she shall withdraw from the committee that year.
  • In case a suitable recipient is not found, an award shall be deferred without any hesitation for the next rotation turn.
  • No award shall be given posthumously.

At present there are three such awards:

  1. Prof. R.K. Mishra Award; Every 3rd year: Presented to a Regular Life Member/Honorary RLM of the Society of a minimum of 20 years standing with an impeccable ethical record and active interest in the affairs of MPSOS.
  2. Prof. R.P. Dhanda Award; Every 3rd year: Given to a Regular Life Member/Honorary RLM with a minimum of 20 years standing and outstanding community service in Ophthalmology.
  3. Prof. A.H. Firdousi Award; Every 3rd year: Awarded to a senior person deeply interested in ophthalmic service to the weaker sections of society with no personal or professional blemish, and a minimum of 20 years standing.

[B] Special Awards (Instituted in year 2022)

1. MPSOS Lifetime Achievement Award (Every Year)

Every year names of eligible candidates will be invited by the Honorary Secretary through divisional society. Each divisional society can recommend only one name with curriculum vitae & relevant documents. The Honorary General Secretary will forward the names to the award committee, which will select the most suitable candidate based on contributions to (a) MPSOS, (b) Ophthalmology, (c) Community.

Eligibility criteria:
  • Aged 70 years or more.
  • Regular Life/Honorary Life member of MPSOS of good standing for more than 20 years with no society dues.
  • Given only once to a member.
  • Eligible members must withdraw from any committee discussing the award if they are a candidate.
  • Deferred if a suitable recipient is not found.
  • No award shall be given posthumously.

2. “STARS OF MPSOS AWARD” (Every Year)

Names of candidates for STARS of MPSOS award will be invited from RLM/HLM by the Honorary General Secretary. After scrutiny, the names of eligible candidates will be forwarded to the Award Committee, which will finalize the awardees. There is no limit on the number of awards given.

Eligibility criteria:
  • Given to members who have received any award in international/national level conferences for work done in Madhya Pradesh.
  • Award must have been received between 1st July of the previous year and 30th June of the conference year.
  • A member can receive this award only once.
  • The recipient must be a member in good standing with no society dues.
  • Deferred if a suitable recipient is not found.
  • No award shall be given posthumously.

[C] Competitive Awards

  • The recipient must be a member in “Good Standing with no Society Dues”.
  • No award shall be given twice to the same person.
  • Members eligible for the award must withdraw from any committee discussing the award.
  • Deferred if a suitable recipient is not found.
  • No award shall be given posthumously.
  • No combined authorship papers shall be included for competitive awards.
  • Even if there is only one entry, it should be accepted and evaluated.

Competitive Awards List:

  1. Prof. G. S. Wagle Oration Competition Award: Every 3rd year. Award for an individual paper based on the author's own work. Papers presented earlier in part or full shall not be accepted.
  2. Dr. P.L. Dubey Memorial Award: Every 3rd year. Award for the best free paper on “Posterior segment” presented at the Annual Conference.
  3. Prof. D.N.S. Choudhary Memorial Award: Every year. Award for the overall “Best Free Paper of the Year” by a RLM.
  4. Prof. R.P. Dhanda Memorial Award: Every 3rd year. Best free paper on “Cornea” by a RLM.
  5. Prof. I.B. Goel Memorial Award: Every 3rd year. Best free paper on “Paediatric Ophthalmology” by a RLM.
  6. Prof. B. Shukla Award: Every 3rd year. Best “Grass Root Free Paper” by a RLM working/practicing at a district level or below.
  7. Smt. Prabha Devi Mishra Award: Every 3rd year. Best free paper by a lady RLM.
  8. Shri Sadguru Seva Sangh Chitrakoot Award: Every 3rd year. Best video film by a RLM.
  9. Dr H.C. Setiya Award: Every 3rd year. Best video on “Management of the surgical complication” presented by a RLM.
  10. Haripad Datta Award: Every 3rd year. Best paper in community ophthalmology by a RLM.
  11. Low Vision Aids Award: Every 3rd year. Best free paper on “Low vision Aids” by a RLM.
  12. Smt Narsingh Bahadur Memorial Award: Every 3rd year. Best free paper on “Glaucoma” by a RLM.
  13. Dr. J. K. Raizada Award: Every 3rd year. Best free paper on “Cataract” by a RLM.
  14. Late Dr. Kumud Joshi V A Award: Every year. Best free paper by a post graduate student member in a special session.
  15. Dr Ramesh Krishna Agarwal Award: Every 3rd year. Best poster by a RLM. Physical posters 4 x 3 feet. Chief author should be present during judgment.
  16. Smt Mani Heeresh Chandra Memorial Award: Every 3rd year. Best paper on Orbit and Oculoplastic by a RLM.
  17. Dr Gokuldas Memorial Award: Every 3rd year. Best paper on “Cataract Surgery and its Complications” by a RLM.
  18. Dr Gurdeep Singh Memorial Award (Year 2022): Every 3rd year. Best paper by a RLM in "Cataract" related to epidemiology, pre and post-operative care, surgery, and management.
  19. Teachers Medical (Under 40 yrs. of age) Award: Every year. For a single author paper presented by a regular life member who is a regular teaching faculty in a medical college of M.P., and under 40 years of age.
  20. Non-Teachers Award (Under 40 yrs. of age): Every year. For a single author paper presented by a regular life member who is under 40 years of age and not a teacher in a medical college.
  21. Ophthalmic Quiz: For PG Students. Annual quiz competition to generate scientific interest among Post Graduate Members.

Sanctioning Awards to be Instituted on Name of Individuals

The society shall carefully evaluate the personal standing of the individual in the society before accepting donations for an award on their name. The rules for the award shall be framed only by the MPSOS. The contributor may express their wishes in general terms while proposing the Award but the rules shall be framed by the MPSOS only. The donation for any award shall be Rs. 1,50,000/- (Rupees One Lac fifty thousand only) to be increased by Rs. 25,000/- every three years.

Article No. 16: Workshops/Seminars/Conferences under the aegis of the M.P.S.O.S

Workshops / Seminars / Midterm & National Conferences under the aegis of the M.P.S.O.S can be organized by a divisional society provided they abide by the following conditions:

  • The divisional society will obtain prior written approval from the M.P.S.O.S to organize such an event. The Standing Committee in consultation with the Chairman of the Scientific Committee will consider the application and decide about the sanction.
  • 20% of the savings from the conference shall be given to the M.P.S.O.S.
  • The President and Secretary of M.P.S.O.S will also be members of the organizing committee of the event.
  • The Chairman of the Scientific Committee will also be a member of the Scientific Committee of the event.
  • The local organizing committee will circulate the information of the event to all the members of the M.P.S.O.S at their own expense.
